The students were asked to use black ink on paper to create different marks by using common household items. By looking at the style and arrangement of the marks, we came up with words that correspond to the marks in order to communicate our concept clearly and powerfully. The final project will be made in Photoshop on at least 10"x10" canvas and will include two different word marks.
The first phase of this project included using different household items and ink to create interesting marks on paper. I created the marks using a binder clip, bottle cap, and a leaf.
The second phase included choosing interesting marks and words that are in harmony with the images we will be creating.
Out of these 7 marks, I narrowed my choices down to two marks and two words. I chose the words "omniscient" and "mystic." I then created 3 different compositions for both of my marks.
These are my first finished digital compositions. I chose the word "omniscient" for my first mark because I thought the mark resembled an eye. My idea was to make the word match the shapes of an actual iris of a human eye. For my other mark, the shape reminded me of clouds overlapping a moon, thus the word "mystic" communicated this concept clearly.
For the final compositions (on top of the page), I took the lines out of the "omniscient" and made the letters resemble the small shapes of a human iris. In addition, I changed the letter C in "mystic" and made the top part look more like a cloud. My final compositions successfully represent the words and convey a message.
